Exposing Yourself
“Confess your trespasses to one another,
and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer
of a righteous man avails much.”
- James 5:16 (NKJV)
Have you ever
watched those weight-loss competition shows on television? There is always that infamous photo at the
beginning of the competition… for the ladies in a sports bra and shorts and for
the men, shorts only. It is a very
intimidating moment having to walk in front of a photographer and pose with all
your fat hanging out everywhere. I am
sure all of those contestants are embarrassed, but they all knew it had to be
done. Hearing from one contestant she
stated that she knew that more than her body was being exposed to the
world. Her heart was exposed as well. She said she had to be open to the entire
process of losing weight so that she could make lasting changes in her life.
The “R” in DREAM
stands for “Realizing where you are today.”
Before you begin any weight-loss program, we encourage everyone to visit
their doctor for a total check-up, basically to find out what all their numbers
are. You have to know where you are to
be able to go forward. This is one
reason we have a weekly weigh-in at our DREAM meetings. We also encourage people to take a “before”
picture. Thankfully we’re not sharing
our “before” picture or our stats before the entire world. But you do have to face those things for
yourself.
You might be
shocked at the results and want to hide from the world. You might be surprised at the numbers on the
scale and realize that’s why your clothes have been getting tighter. There is no need to beat yourself up about
what the numbers or results look like.
Remember, it’s a starting point.
Taking inventory
of how you have come to be overweight is very important. It’s time to be honest. Maybe you struggle with eating certain foods
or waking up in the middle of the night to binge. Maybe you use food to cope with stress. I encourage you to share your challenges with
someone so they can help you find a solution.
Hiding addictions and keeping habits a secret only gives them more
power. The Bible tells us to confess our
faults to one another so that we may be healed (James 5:16). The lady I spoke of before said she believes
that showing the world her faults allowed her to recognize her poor health and
move toward healing.
Don’t be afraid
to expose yourself. It will lead you to
the new you. I like this quote from Jim
Rohn: “You must take personal responsibility.
You cannot change the circumstances, the seasons, or the wind, but you
can change yourself. That is something
for which you are in charge.”
Mini-Challenge of the Day
If you haven’t
done so already, make an appointment for a physical check-up. Get weighed.
Then get into a bathing suit and have someone take your “before”
picture. Take a good look - - this is
the launching pad for your weight loss.
Tip of the Day
Always have a
learning attitude. Read books and
magazines, even websites on health, nutrition, and exercise. Read up on information that will help you be
healthier and more fit. Check with your
local library, gym, community center and even your grocery store. Most offer free classes and workshops about
health. Keep growing and learn as much
as you can in your journey toward health.
Until tomorrow,
be blessed!
Remember to
DREAM!
